Inside Chromagen: The Logistics and Shipping Department
The Logistics and Shipping Department at Chromagen Solar Energy Systems,
is the last station before the solar collectors and hot water storage
cylinders leave the line to be shipped to Chromagen's customers
world wide.
The department is managed by Ms. Galia Fox, bringing in managerial
skills and leadership to take the department forward and help other
preceding departments as well.
The Logistics and Shipping Department is the last station on the
manufacturing line of Chromagen. The department consists of 4 full
time staff and is headed by Ms. Fox. The department is responsible
for loading the solar systems onto shipping containers and ensuring
full utilisation of the shipping medium. A typical contain would take
around 50 hot water storage tanks and around 100 solar thermal
collectors (this would naturally vary according
to the type of kit loaded).
Ms. Fox, the only female manager on the production line is a veteran
in this space. She has been with the department since 1991.
"One has to be flexible in our department" she comments,
"we not only load the finished products, but also deal with
customers visiting the line, organise the goods in the main
storage warehouse and move goods between the various manufacturing
facilities of Chromagen".
Ms. Fox refers to the growing global demand:
"lately we have seen a
major increase in the export shipments, which raises the bar for us and
requires special execution, as the requirements vary between markets"
Accordingly, there are internal specialisation with some staff
focusing on specific markets and others on other markets.
Ms. Fox refers to her staff as highly professional and reliable.
They are very versatile with the type of jobs and responsibilities
each one can handle. This becomes very important when they are asked
to help other departments within the manufacturing line.
Ms. Fox is responsible for all the shipments from the production line,
returns from suppliers, as well as dealing with customers on the
phone and shipping orders. She normally works between 7am and 4pm.
When she has finished her day job, she has to attend to her
"second shift" at home with her husband and 2 daughters.
She likes to spend time with the family and is a keen user
of the local gym.
